1982 VW Rabbit "Project X "
(Stephen Jones)

I purchased a 1982 VW Rabbit for a parts car (transmission and axle beam) for the 702 Rabbit. I had bent the axle beam on the 702 Rabbit during the 2000-2001 winter when I was trying out my first set of ice racing tires. The tires worked great for getting up to speed.... but I was going a lot faster than the guy in front of me so I had to get on the brakes hard. Doh! Car started to pivot and the back end came around far enough to tag a light and fluffy snow bank... made of solid ice. We were able to bend the beam back to an acceptable tolerance with a bottle jack and a block of wood.

Anyway, after having the 1982 Rabbit sitting in my driveway, I started to notice that the car had an almost perfect body. Hey, it is over 20 years old! It has tinted plexiglas windows that actual have a curve to them which makes them look more like glass. There is a removable steering wheel, completely gutted, etc..... all ready to be my next project car to either replace the 702 Rabbit or to add to the fleet as a specific type of racer (i.e. ice racing vs. autocross vs. hill climb vs. track all have different attributes that would be needed in the car). We will see. For now, here are some pictures of the car as it sits. We will call it Project 'X' for now.
